Recap: Successful Dialogue Between Science and Business at Science Lounge 2024
St. Wolfgang, August 2024 -The Science Lounge @ scalaria was once again the meeting point for leading minds from science, business, and technology. Since its inception in 2019, the Science Lounge has established itself as a central innovation meeting and will continue to be an important platform for exchanging ideas on crucial green-tech topics.
On August 30th and 31st, as part of the Living Legends of Aviation Europe Awards groundbreaking developments and challenges in the fields of Automotive, Aerospace, Health and new technologies were the focus. International participants presented their latest findings and advancements in sustainable research and discussed the future of mobility and technological progress.
The event was a complete success and once again demonstrated the importance of interdisciplinary exchange for progress in these areas. The Science Lounge will continue to serve as a hub for innovation and collaboration in the coming years – more to come in 2025/2026!

The Living Legends of Aviation Awards, launched in Los Angeles in 2003 by Jerry Lips , have also become one of the industry's most important events in Europe. With glorious sunshine, seaplanes on the sparkling lake, and the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Salzkammergut, the setting couldn't have been more perfect as the red carpet filled up on Saturday afternoon: Moto GP rider Dani Pedrosa, Ulf Merbold, German physicist and astronaut, World Gliding Champion Bruno Gantenbrink, Kenn Ricci, Chairman of Flexjet, Living Legend Bertrand Piccard, Greg Williams, owner of Williams Turbines, Lucie Pereyre, 4th generation representative of the house, Fatih Ozmen, CEO of Sierra Nevada Corporation, Justin Lips and Stacy Elsner Living Legends of Aviation organizers and many others were spotted.
Awards at the Award Gala
The 2024 award recipients included Markus Bucher, CEO of Pilatus Aircraft, who received the Dr. Sam B. Williams Technology Award , as well as Dieter Morszeck, founder of Rimowa and owner of WACO Aircraft, who accepted the Eren Ozmen Entrepreneur of the Year Award . The Aviation Industry Leader Award went to Gilles Labbé, one of the leading suppliers in the international jet industry. A special honor was bestowed upon Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury , who was recognized as Lifetime Aviation Industry Leader . Steve Varsano of The Jet Business received the Kenn Ricci Lifetime Aviation Entrepreneur Award.
Peter Besenyei, known as a pioneer of the Red Bull Air Race , Ben Chin, owner of Diamond Aircraft, Elie Zelouf of Jet Aviation and Ivo Boscarol of Pipistrel were inducted into the Hall of Fame and can now call themselves "Living Legends of Aviation" name. Particularly honored was the Red Bull pilot Dario Costa, who made history on September 4, 2021, by flying through two tunnels in Istanbul, thereby immortalizing himself in the Book of Records.. For this outstanding achievement, he received the Bob Hoover Freedom of Flight Award. His great passion for flying was witnessed by the audience on Saturday at the Red-Carpet Opening Show over Lake Wolfgang. There, he also presented an impressive flight demonstration together with a P-51D Mustang of the Flying Bulls, the most famous aircraft of the award's namesake Bob Hoover.
