1998. As is often the case, it all started with an idea. The dream of creating something. At home on Lake Wolfgangsee. Even then, Peter Gastberger was no dreamer; he was a visionary. So the idea took shape. First as 'Schloss am Wolfgangsee,' emerging from the former Romantikhotel Eibenstein. And from 2000, as event resort scalaria. And then the idea took flight.
1999. The first event. The world premiere of the Peugeot 205. Countless more were to follow. The "Lemontree" Open House Event – an impressive journey during which scalaria first introduced itself to the world and the international press. "La vita é scalaria" with the flying pianist in a hot air balloon – another highlight. Also unforgettable were the 10 years of the "scalaria air challenge," during which Lake Wolfgangsee became the hub of international seaplane aviation for a summer weekend between 2005 and 2015, setting new standards with the Flying Bulls' airshows.
From 2008 to 2012 came the era of "scalaria Aquaria" and close collaboration with Cirque du Soleil. "scalaria Symphony" was the evolution of the "air challenge": a Flying Opera, performed by the virtuosos of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and visually accompanied by aerobatic artists like the Flying Bulls and Red Bull Blanix. In 2019 and 2022, a touch of Hollywood finally swept over the lake when the Oscars of Aviation were presented by John Travolta and Morgan Freeman as part of the Living Legends of Aviation Gala.
But beyond the event scene, quite a lot has happened in the past 25 years. The expansion by 75 rooms in the new sunset wing in the west of the resort. Or in 2022, the new Pergola Terrace and the Lemon Beach Bar as a logical extension of the DO-X teatro. Just to name a few.

Peter Gastberger
For his outstanding achievements in the event industry, the "Event Visionary from Wolfgangsee," as award winner Peter Gastberger is called by the independent jury in their laudation, received the coveted award. "Scalaria has become a significant economic driver for the entire Wolfgangsee region," says Hans-Jürgen Heinrich, long-time editor-in-chief of the MICE trade magazine "events" and owner of MICE Consulting. "Through self-staged events and measurable indirect returns, the entrepreneur has succeeded in awakening the stagnant Salzkammergut region from its slumber and opening up new perspectives."
